The “Dino Game” (also known as the “Chrome Dino”) is a browser game developed by Google. This game is built into Google Chrome and appears when someone tries to access the internet without a proper and stable internet connection. The player directs a pixelated Tyrannosaurus Rex(T-Rex), through a sliding landscape, avoiding obstacles to achieve a high score. Chrome UX Team created this game in 2014.
How To Play?
The game can then be launched by pressing space or ↑ on the desktop or tapping the dinosaur on Android or iOS mobile devices. Additionally, the game can be accessed by inputting
chrome://dino into the Omnibox.
During the game, the Lonely T-Rex continuously moves from left to right across a black-and-white desert landscape, with the player attempting to avoid oncoming obstacles such as cacti and Pteranodons by jumping or ducking. Pressing space, ↑, or tapping the dinosaur on mobile devices will cause the dinosaur to “jump” while pressing the ↓ key will cause the dinosaur to “duck”(just like yo mama). As the game progresses, the speed of play gradually increases until the user hits an obstacle, prompting an instant game over.
Once the player reaches around 700 points, the game switches from dark gray graphics on a white background to pale gray pictures on a black background, representing a shift from day to night, with daytime sky graphics also becoming nighttime sky graphics. The color scheme then alternates as the game progresses. The game was designed to reach its maximum score after approximately 17 million years of playtime, about how long the T-Rex existed before it went extinct during the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event.
Suppose a network administrator disables the Dinosaur Game. In that case, an error message appears when attempting to play the game, which features an image of a meteor heading toward the Lonely T-Rex.
1. The Dino originally had powers:
The Dino originally was supposed to have powers like a kick and a sonic roar.
2. How long does it take to finish the game?
According to the developers, it is going to take you 17 million years to complete the game as the dinosaur lived approximately that long on the earth.
3. Top secret project:
During development, the game was given the codename “Project Bolan”, referring to Marc Bolan, the lead singer of the T. Rex band.
4. The dino was only obstructed by the plants:
The pteranodons were added as obstacles with a browser update in 2015.
5. The dino had a birthday party:
In September 2018, an Easter egg was added to the game in celebration of Chrome's 10th birthday and the game's fourth birthday, with a birthday cake appearing in the desert and a birthday hat appearing on the Lonely T-Rex if the cake is “eaten”, but didn't have any friends to celebrate and still was running.
6. Making your own Dino is legal.
The game is not copyrighted. Anybody can create a similar game or modify the code to create their own version of the game, but you need to learn to code first.
7. Many people still do not have internet.
Users from all over the world contribute to 270 million games being played every month.
8. Highest possible score:
Contrary to popular belief that such games end with a boss level or another easter egg, it is indeed an endless game. However, there is a limit to the score you can make while playing it. The highest possible score you can make is 99,999. Afterward, the score resets itself, but you can continue playing.
9. You can hack the game very easily:
If you want to brag about your score in a believable manner, we have a trick for you. You can make the Dino invincible by writing two simple lines of code in your browser. Even if you are not a tech guy, you can quickly copy and paste the codes, and no obstacle would stop you from scoring.
10. You can play the game, even when you are online:
Not many people know about this but you can play the game even when you are online. Just type “chrome://dino” in the URL box and try to defeat the high score.
