Grand Theft Auto V is a 2013 action-adventure game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. The game is played from either a third-person or first-person perspective, and its world is navigated on foot and by vehicle.
It was released in September 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, in November 2014 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, in April 2015 for Windows, and in March 2022 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.Extensively marketed and widely anticipated, the game broke industry sales records and became the fastest-selling entertainment product in history, earning $800 million in its first day and $1 billion in its first three days.
It is the second best-selling video game of all time with over 170 million copies shipped. As of April 2018, it is one of the most financially successful entertainment products of all time, with about $6 billion in worldwide revenue.
Its successor is in development.
1. The developers are quite generous:
For a long time, the PC version of the game had a significant load problem. Anytime you tried to switch to the multiplayer mode, it took way too long. However, a modder figured out a fix to significantly decrease the time.
In response, Rockstar made the fix themselves and included it in the game's next update. The developers didn't forget about the modder who discovered the solution, though. They mentioned the modder in the patch notes and paid them $10,000. It might not be the flashiest mod for the game, but it benefitted everyone, including the modder's bank account.
2. Franklin was originally supposed to be killed in the story:
As GTA 5’s primary campaign concludes, players, get the choice between ‘Kill Michael,’ ‘Kill Trevor,’ and ‘Deathwish.’ While the Deathwish option keeps all the main characters alive, it wasn’t supposed to be the case in earlier builds. The game’s code previously indicated that selecting the Deathwish option would have killed off Franklin in the story. It’s unclear who would have killed Franklin, but players would have been to play as his friend Lamar after he died.
3. World Record for finishing the game is quite surprising:
The world record for finishing ‘GTA IV' is 5 hours and 37 minutes and as for ‘GTA V' it is 7 hours and 25 minutes. Even additional impressively, GTA III has been beaten in just 71 minutes. Since the most hypnotic record is held by player Fil_maj_rasz, who managed to beat Vice city in only 57 minutes and 29 seconds.
4. James Bond has also contributed!
The JB700 is primarily based on the Aston Martin DB5, the car driven by James Bond in many of his movies. It’s also obvious that the car's name is a reference to the secret agent himself.
5. Ned Luke(Michael) had to put on weight to play his role:
Actors often transform their bodies for roles. For example, most people who get hired to play a Marvel superhero or supervillain get jacked to fit the look. As it's mostly done for visual reasons, it doesn't happen as often in the voice-acting world.
But while speaking to USA Today, Ned Luke said that he put on a few pounds to mocap Michael. He did so to deal with the physicality involved with the role. As a bonus, it made him look a bit more like the character.
6. GTA 5 script was almost 3,500 pages long:
The sprawling story and expletive-laden dialogues of GTA 5 were written in a really long script. In a NY Comic Con 2013 panel, voice actors for the game’s main characters, Steven Ogg, Ned Luke, and Shawn Fonteno, revealed that the GTA 5 script was 3,500 pages long, which contained the main plot of the game. It should be noted that there are even more dialogues in the game for NPCs and some side missions.
7. Main characters have their own sleep schedules:
Rockstar has worked quite a lot to make sure the main characters are unique in many ways. Each of the main characters has a different sleep schedule. When you save the game by sleeping, a different amount of time will pass based on which character you are playing. Michael will sleep for 6 hours, Franklin will sleep for 8 hours, and Trevor will sleep for 12 hours. While this doesn’t really affect the gameplay experience, this shows how much attention to detail goes into game development at Rockstar.
9. GTA 5 Was The Most-Watched Game On Twitch In 2021:
Grand Theft Auto 5 was originally released back in 2013. So, eight years later, you would expect the game to have fallen out of relevancy. Yet, that didn't occur with this juggernaut of a title, as it was still the most-watched game on Twitch in 2021.
Rockstar's constant stream of new GTA online content did play some part in achieving the feat. However, likely the biggest reason Twitch viewers spent a combined 3.1 billion combined hours watching GTA content was the popularity of GTA RP. This is where people join a dedicated GTA server and roleplay.
10 Unknown Facts about GTA V:
10. GTA 5 Is More Successful Than A Few Popular Gaming Series:
It's well-known that Grand Theft Auto 5 is successful, but some people don't realize just how ridiculously successful it is. In February 2022, it was discovered that GTA 5 had outsold every game in the Assassin's Creed series combined to that point, according to ScreenRant.
This is also the case with the Resident Evil series, and all the Final Fantasy games aren't that far in front of GTA 5, either. Those are three famous series that are successful in their own right. For a single title to outsell two of those series and nearly the third is mind-blowing.
