Top 10 Tips and Tricks for GTA V!

As a newcomer to Los Santos, you may feel overwhelmed by the region’s massive map and a large number of activities available upon your arrival. After spending more than 40 hours in the city, I’ve got some advice that should help you get on the right track to riches. Here are some tips to be a pro at the game.

Top 10 Tips and Tricks for GTA V:

1. Maximize your critical skills:

All three characters start with different skill levels. Not all the skills are as meaningful as the others, but I recommend developing expertise across the board in two critical areas – shooting and flying. You can sharpen your aim at Ammu-Nation gun ranges located throughout the region, or by racking up headshots in the open field. To master the control of planes and choppers, I highly recommend attending flight school, which is located at the Los Santos airport.

2. Cheaper Vehicles:

You can pay less for your vehicles by purchasing them over the in-game internet and incorporating this special trick…

  1. Open your phone and go to the internet.
  2. Click on “Travel and Transport”.
  3. Pick the website you want (for example Legendary Motorsport). You will notice that vehicles like the Z-Type and Adder are very expensive…
  4. Back out to the home page.
  5. Go back to “Travel and Transport” and back to the site, you were on just before to see the different prices! For example, the Z-Type for $3,000,000 and the Adder for $410,000, and so on.
  6. Some vehicles go up in price doing this so just pick the page with the lowest price.

3. Money is something hard, but You’ll Have Plenty of Money, Regardless:

Don’t care about the stock market? Don’t worry! You will rarely be short on money in GTA V. If you just play with whatever money you get from missions, you’ll have plenty to take taxis, buy guns and armor and modify your car. You won’t have enough money to buy the game’s most expensive properties and vehicles, but that’s not the end of the world.

4. Don’t Forget Your Special Abilities:

Each of the three protagonists has a unique special ability. Franklin can slow down time while driving, Michael can use a Max Payne-like bullet time to do the same during shootouts, and Trevor has a berserker-like ability to absorb a ton of damage while racking up kills. Use these special abilities whenever you can to improve them; when you get in a jam in later missions you’ll be grateful to have a larger meter. Of the three special abilities, I found Franklin’s to be the most useful. Being able to slow down time while driving 160 MPH through traffic is a godsend during chase missions, and it’s also easier to line up shots while moving in slow motion.

5. Power washing can be expensive:

This is a pretty cool feature/piece of detail included by Rockstar in GTAV. Simply grab a fire truck and then aim the water cannon at a dirty car. Next thing you know that car will be showroom clean. Save some money it is simply very hard to find.

6. Chop not only poops:

Dogs have a great sense of smell, which is useful for tracking down spacecraft fragments or letters that solve a murder mystery. Take Chop along when you’re in the mood for tracking down these collectibles, because there are a lot of terrains to cover and not a lot of directions to take without him. If he’s nearby one of the pieces he’ll lead you to it, which is a big time saver.

7. Cars alarms are pretty annoying:

You seem to be able to disable car alarms most of the time by simply hitting start and loading up the pause menu. Sometimes honking the horn will also work!

Great for when you don’t want to attract the attention of nearby police…

8. You should know your cars:

Some heists require you to procure a getaway vehicle. Whatever you do, avoid using vehicles you have purchased for this purpose. I made this mistake with a $100,000 sports car I tricked out to the fullest extent, and after the mission, it never returned to my garage (which is smart play for a criminal who wants to stay out of jail). Instead, I recommend hijacking a good getaway car, tricking it out at Los Santos Customs (the improved car armor and bulletproof tires are highly recommended), and dropping it off at the extraction point.

9. Think like a criminal :

The police pursuit in GTA V is governed by a line of sight. As any GTA vet knows, the higher your wanted level, the more comprehensive the police response will be. Our instinct is to escape escalating circumstances via vehicle. When doing so, I found it’s easier to shake them by going off-road – provided you have a vehicle up to the task. Another good tactic when you’re on the freeway is to jump off to a lower level of the interstate. It may seem counterintuitive, but sometimes driving isn’t the smartest way to escape. If you’re in a neighborhood with alleys and backyards, sometimes it’s easier to shake the cops on foot by jumping over fences or hiding under bridges.

10. Dodging missiles……

The best way to dodge air missiles is to actually fly toward them and then fly underneath them at the last minute. Missiles can turn upwards, left, and right very quickly, but are not so good at changing direction downwards.
